The Baluty-district is neglected for a long time. First Jewish quarter, during WW II ghetto from where hundred thousands of people where transported.
Nowaydays it is a quarter where people live in bad social circumstances. Poor housing, often large families, sometimes living together in one flat. Ruines around are used as playground for children and temporary shelter for homeless people.
History is very present in Baluty , never far away. But probably not for the hooligans who seems to live it up themselves in anti-Semitic graffity. So welcome in Baluty!
Or are this only obvious stereotypes ? Who are the 'Balutians'?
This question above is the key question in the photo-project, called Baluty Baluty, from which this blog is telling the story and the ins and outs day by day. Mainly in English or in Polish or even... sometimes... in Dutch (sorry!)
Would it be difficult or dangerous to shoot a film in Baluty? If you have any information, please email me at: robertcapria@hotmail.com
